Mrs. Bettye Makins Hill, age 71 of 1413 Riverfork Road died Monday, June 26, 2017 in the comfort of her residence. She was born January 9, 1946 in Waterloo, South Carolina a daughter of the late John Robert Hunter and Lillie Daisy Makins Wakefield. She was educated in the Laurens County Schools, graduating from Sanders High School in 1964. She was a former employee of Monsanto/Solutia retiring after thirty-five plus years of service. She also worked for none years for the South Carolina Department of Special Needs and Disabilities. She was a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church supporting and serving various ministries of the church. She was an active member of the Tumbling Shoals Baptist Association; a Life Member of the Women’s Auxiliary and a member of the Martha Chapter #229B Order of Eastern Stars. She was active in her community as a member of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Sanders Alumni and Laurens County Voter Registration Commission as a Poll Worker. She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Hill of the home; two daughters, Robbilynn (Vincent) Hill Irby of Laurens, South Carolina and Marla (Stuart)K. H. Harris of Charlotte, North Carolina; one son Travis Leon Hill of Greenville, South Carolina; six sisters, Bessie (Richard) Smith of Pittsboro, North Carolina; Cathy Clark, Carolyn (Dwight) ross, Delores Cole, Jane(Steven)Jennings-Simmons all of Detroit, Michigan and Olivia Hunter of Columbia, South Carolina; one brother, Oscar(Brenda) Tribble of Laurens, South Carolina and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2pm Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the Laurel Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Herbert E. Glenn officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family is at the home. Beasley Funeral Home Laurens is in charge of arrangements.Email obituary
