Dear McDowell Family, Melvin and I met at North Carolina Central University my freshman year in 1982. The gentle giant was he. We instantly became friends and it lasted throughout my college years. Some attributes dependable, witty, charming and protective to name a few. We had Geography courses together. We shared many laughs and countless hours of listening to music one of his passions GOOD music that is. He and his roommate Maynard Smith affectionately known as Mumbles were kind enough to drive me to Winton NC to see my family who had come down from NJ as I didn't have a car. His soul was genuine and his smile would light up any room. I pray with each passing day your steps become softer and heart lighter. May God keep you wrapped in his bosom during this time and beyond. Peace and blessings, Shaun

I am praying for your peace and comfort during this difficult time in your lives. I enjoyed talking to him and having his support in any "Golf Tournament" I was affiliated with. I know that this is hard, but we know God makes no mistakes and all his pain and suffering is over. Jackie

My deepest sympathy in the loss of your beloved family member. How comforting to know that when death claims one of our loved ones, others feel our pain, especially our heavenly father. That is why he gives us comfort and encouragement from his word the Bible. Psalm 34:18 reminds us that "Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit". And the beautiful promise for the future at Isaiah 25:8 which says; And he (God) will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe the tears from all faces. May these Bible truths help you to cope with the sadness and grief during this time of bereavement.
