Marilyn Loretta Davis, was born on June 20, 1955 in Ora, South Carolina to the late Lula Cunningham and the late Jessie Mack Cullen. She lived with her grandparents the late A. C. and the late Annie Mae Robertson until the age of 12. At the age of 12 she relocated to New York with her mother where she matriculated through the public school system. After graduating from John Bowne High School she furthered her education at SUNY Brockport College and New York City College.
After being employed with Lord & Taylor and The United States Post Office, she finally found her passion with the Department of Social Services
Marilyn began her career in social services at the New York City Department of Social Services/ Human Resources Administration. Initially, she worked in direct client services improving the lives of those in need. She was then moved up to a policy position with the Deputy Commissioner and later with the Executive Deputy Commissioner. Her next promotion took her to the Office of Corrective Action within the Office of Quality Assurance, a branch of the agency tasked with helping to ensure accuracy and integrity. Her continued advancement was the result of her competence, dedication, and pursuit of professional excellence.
All though an untimely accident caused her to medically retire, she continued to help people in need, however and wherever she could. Her keen intellect, great sense of humor, loyalty, and concern for others were among her most admired traits. Her courage in the face of what most would consider overwhelming adversity was incredible.
